Well the birth of our little girl, Zion Rue, has finally come and gone. Brett and I had actually come to a point where we really excepted that I was going to be pregnant for the rest of our lives. So you can imagine our disbelief when my labor contractions started to happen.
It was 5:30 when I had what I think was my first contraction. We decided to go have pizza at my mom and dad's that night, so we all piled in Brett's pick up truck to head over. I thought i was still having a few contractions here and there throughout supper, so we went on a walk afterwards to get the ball rolling. By the end of the walk, around 8:00, Brett and I were beginning to believe that maybe this was the real deal... and decided to text my midwife that we thought the baby was coming tonight. And here is how the rest of the evening progressed...
8:30 - headed home
9:00 to 10:30 - scrubbed floors/did the dishes/straightened house
11:30 - Sadie stopped in but then decided she didn't want to be in on the birth
11:45 - called Brande - Sleep or walk? Tried to sleep
12:00 - strong contractions start
12:30 - got in shower
1:15 - got out of shower and called Brande
2:00 - Brande arrived (baby doing good and 6cm dilated )
2:30 - got in shower
3:30 - got out of shower
3:45 - 9.5 cm dilated
4:12 - water broke
4:14 - baby crowned
4:15 - baby born
My midwife had us in bed and settled with in the next 10 min. (awesome!). They stuck around until 6:15 to take vitals and assessments of me and the baby. We would have been able to sleep for hours, but we got about 15 minutes of rest and our first guest arrived:). But we were so excited to share her with everyone, we did not mind.
Zion: Zion means heaven. And as all of you know our future is going to be changing dramatically, as we move to the other side of the world, Thailand. The only thing that I can come back to that keeps me sane right now is having an eternal perspective on life. We want to remember that at this time in our lives, and forever, and we want Zion to always remember that our hearts focus should be set eternally... towards heaven.
Rue: Rue as a middle name has no complicated explanation. It is simply the combination of our moms middle names:) Jackie SUE and Beth ROSE. ROSE + SUE= RUE.
Thanks everyone for your prayers. We love you all!
