Our Top Ten Lessons learned in our 1st 100 days of being in Thailand…
10. Don't tell your wife when you have killed big Huntsman spiders in the house (or any other creature for that matter).
9. You know your Thai's not very good when you think your speaking Thai and they think your speaking English.
8. Children are good models of cross-cultural relationship building. You really don't need to understand one another while playing… you just laugh!
7. As husband and wife… and language buddies: Make great efforts to avoid sharing a bad day.
6. After a short famine from team fellowship (trips home to America), we have realized the necessity of our good team for health and sanity.
5. Praise God for FaceTime so that Grandparents don't have to completely miss out on the little things (ex. first steps, talking more, building towers)
4. Due to the scorching hot days, the only clothes a 2 year old needs is "gang-geeng-nai" (underwear).
3. The things we do and feel must be for the Glory of God, not for the perceptions of others or to make ourselves feel righteous.
2. He knows what makes our hearts heavy and what sends us over the edge. He gives good gifts to his children and he takes care of their hearts when they're weary.
1. Finally, when all language fails… just smile, laugh occasionally, and nod…
GOD, we just pray that you can give us faithfulness with the gifts you have given us. You have given us REST, so please make us DILIGENT in learning the Thai language. You have given us a HOME, please may it be used as a place of REFUGE to those cannot repay. You have given us faithful FRIENDS, please make us LIFE-GIVING to them.
